I need a home security system

I’ve spoken to quite a few people in Oklahoma city and Tulsa about home security, and it occurs to me that a good many of them simply do not worry about it because in their mind they’re thinking  “Isn’t that why I have insurance?” every time the subject of spending any time or effort related to planning or implementing a home security system.

To their point; Yes, that is why you have insurance. Having insurance cover your losses when something bad does happen sure does make you feel a lot better in the wake of some catastrophe. The point of the home security system is to help keep you from having to deal with such a situation in the first place. I assure you it’s no fun loosing all your stuff to some criminal’s whim to rip off your house to get some quick cash to buy a bag of dope.

Think of all the real loss you would incur related to the value of the data on your computers that were stolen, or the sentimental value of your family heirlooms some evil-doer is unloading at the pawn shop down the street. Some things in life are simply irreplaceable, especially your peace of mind.

Another sentiment I’ve run into in these conversations is the idea that “It won’t happen to me”  As anyone who has just been robbed. Did you suspect it was going to happen to you? Chances are they’re going to tell you; No. I had no clue. It came right out of the blue .  National crime statistics indicate that more than 22% of American households report being victims of property crimes annually.

So, if you live in a neighborhood with 100 houses in it, you can count on about 20 of them being robbed sometime within the next year. Naturally there are other factors to consider in your own circumstance, as those are national figures. But you can’t ignore the significance of those numbers. That kind of loss translates into millions of dollars in loss and human suffering.

The odds are that you will suffer some type of crime (typically a robbery) in your home are actually pretty high. You can play the odds on this thing, but speaking statistically, It can certainly happen to you..

Needless to say, keeping adequate insurance coverage is a key part of any home security system. But don’t be lulled into a false sense of security. Insurance, no matter how much coverage you have, is not a substitute for the preventative effectivness of a good home security system.
